When one of the world's leading manufacturers and marketers of tissue, packaging, paper, pulp, and building products, was looking for ways to improve efficiency in the repack areas in its Portland warehouses, CCI Enterprises proved to be a good fit in meeting those needs. And similar to CCI’s partnerships with businesses such as Coca-Cola and Leatherman Tool Group, Georgia-Pacific’s desire to improve business operations fall in line with CCI’s mission to provide quality employment opportunities to adults with disabilities. It is unique partnerships like these that allow our workers to build skills and fulfill their goals of becoming more self-sufficient. Starting in February 2008, CCI’s crew began chipping away at the backlog of work at Georgia-Pacific’s three Portland locations. According the Dean Walter, General Manager of Georgia-Pacific Consumer Products Northwest LLC, the work crew has now reduced the number of cases needing re-pack to less than 20% of the amount they previously had. Responsible for those impressive numbers is CCI’s five person work crew, which is made up of individuals who have graduated through CCI’s various vocational programs and have gained the abilities that allow them to be successful in a more complex and competitive work environment. One such individual is Kevin Meyer, an energetic young man who has been part of the CCI family for several years. Previously a member of our crew at Nike, Kevin has found a new home at Georgia-Pacific, where he removes components damaged during transportation and re-packs them for distribution to Georgia-Pacific customers. Kevin’s job on the CCI crew at Georgia-Pacific is well-suited for him, where his strong work ethic and his commitment to his teammates keep him focused on the doing the best job he can every day. Under the supervision of CCI crew supervisor Oscar Escobar, Kevin and his teammates are an integral part of Georgia-Pacific’s Portland operations. Dean Walter and Georgia-Pacific remain supportive of the partnership sharing that, “CCI management has been excellent to work with, and has been very proactive to ensure our needs as a customer are met in a timely manner. Our partnership with CCI Enterprises has been an excellent experience for those of us at Georgia-Pacific Northwest Service Centers. We only wish we had started this sooner.” For CCI and those we serve, the partnership remains an essential part of our success and a pathway of success to those we serve.
